Reza Shafahi, the Diary of a Gambler
Description
Description
Iranian artist Reza Shafahi (b. 1940) began his artistic career in his 70s, after spending decades struggling with gambling addiction. Art has become an outlet for him, with his son Mamali Shafahi joining him in a daily drawing exercise. A distinguished collection of Reza's works has been collected in a standalone volume for the first time. Reza Shafahi, The Diary of a Gambler celebrates Reza's artistic practice dating back to his first solo exhibition at Club Rhubarb in New York City in 2019. This book contains a re-imagined version of an interview in the 29th issue of Apartamento magazine, which tells Reza's fascinating story. Classical Persian poems, which influenced Reza's lively and emotional works, are also included in the book. Contributions from figures like Mamali, Cox, Michael Bullock, and Martha Kirszenbaum provide further context for Reza's artistic journey.
