Description
The world often seems divided between cat and dog lovers, but Walter Chandoha, the 20th century’s most celebrated pet photographer, found himself happily in the middle, cherishing both equally. Chandoha admired these fascinating creatures for their unique beauty and character, capturing them through his lens over a remarkable career spanning more than 70 years. While working on his acclaimed Cats book, he carefully selected his favorite dog photographs for a potential follow-up project, gathering hundreds of images, contact sheets, and color slides—many unseen for over 50 years and some never revealed before.
Walter Chandoha passed away in 2019 at the age of 98, yet his legacy continues with this stunning follow-up dedicated to our loyal companions, dogs. In the book’s introduction, photography critic Jean Dykstra writes, “Walter Chandoha’s dog photographs captivate not just because of the innate charm of dogs but also because the person behind the camera was a true master of his craft."
