PUMA x Michael Lau Collection

Wearable art! PUMA and Hong Kong artist Michael Lau have teamed up once again for their new collection, “SAMPLE”.

Known as the “Godfather of Toy Figures,” Hong Kong artist Michael Lau, famous for his collectible vinyl toys and graffiti-style illustrations, oversaw the entire design process from sketching out initial ideas to the production of the final product in his latest collaboration with PUMA. Lau states that while working with PUMA, he set out with the motivation to create a brand new concept from scratch and ultimately create a masterpiece, rather than focusing on producing a product with commercial value.

Michael hopes to remind everyone with this collection that sometimes what we call “mistakes” can bring joy to products and to us. According to his creative experiences and understanding, the unintentional mistakes made by the designer or the technician working in the factory while creating any item, regardless of what it is, can be the reason for the most entertaining product.

In most places, most of the products produced with these uncalculated mistakes end up in the trash, but Michael prefers to embrace these mistakes and even feed on them in his designs. While the prints and details create the feeling of a collection that is not yet finished and is still in the design phase, Lau’s graphic patterns inspired by toy figures add a unique touch to the products.

Hand-drawn graphics, graphic paper textures and other fun design references stand out in the sneaker designs that give a handmade feel.
