Eddie’s Ever-lasting Stories

At vitruta, we believe that true design does not come to an end. It transforms with time.

Everlasting Stories focuses on people whose lives are shaped around objects that move beyond seasons, gain new meanings through use, and deepen through memory.

In this chapter, we meet Eddie Wailes, a stylist, vintage curator, and a member of the Good People of vitruta community. Eddie’s relationship with vintage is built on curiosity, individuality, and stories waiting to be carried forward.

Eddie’s journey begins with an early sense of clarity. When he realised that university was not the right path for him, he turned towards what he loved. Buying and selling vintage clothing. Over time, this interest grew into a passion and eventually took him all the way to Tokyo. For Eddie, vintage is not simply a style choice. It is a way of understanding the past of objects, who they have touched, and how they continue to evolve over time.

What draws him to a piece is not its monetary value, but its character. The marks it carries, the unrepeatable details, and the personal energy it holds. His attraction to things he knows he will never find again sits at the heart of his connection with vintage. He also finds it meaningful when others recognise the individuality in vintage that cannot be replicated.

For Eddie, a timeless product is lasting not only because it is durable, but because it creates an emotional connection. What matters most is how a piece feels every time it is worn or used. Recently, as he has been simplifying his wardrobe, he has found himself gravitating even more towards items that carry this feeling.

A perfectly tailored jacket from the seventies or a watch that can be passed down through generations. These are objects that trace the changes in a person’s life rather than following trends. For Eddie, perfection is not the goal. Character is. Pieces that become more personal with age, collecting small marks along the way. This is where his deep connection to vintage comes from. It is a clear reminder that when something is designed with intention, it never truly expires.

Timelessness is also a personal archive for Eddie. Every piece he wears is tied to a specific period in his life. Growing up within BMX culture and wearing Vans every day in his youth remain part of his style today. Bringing the past and the present together never feels like a contradiction. Each style belongs to a different moment in time, and all of them exist within the same story.
